ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON

Cal State L.A. University Police Department seeks your assistance as it investigates a Saturday morning incident in the Student Housing parking lot

Summary:

On November 15, 2008, at approximately 12:33 a.m., University Police responded to Student Housing, Phase II Complex, to assist a Resident Assistant (RA) in dispersing a party at one of the apartments. Enroute, officers received a radio broadcast that shots had been fired near the Student Housing Complex and that possible suspects were fleeing on foot and in a vehicle.

Officers observed a possible involved vehicle fleeing the area and conducted a traffic stop. The driver reported that his friend, Victim #1, had been shot in the chest by an unidentified suspect in the Housing parking lot. A second individual, Victim #2, who was shot in the foot, was found on the stairwell leading from the Housing Loop/Service Road (behind Phase II, Building 2) to Lot 5. Neither of the wounded persons, ages 19 and 22, are CSULA students. They are residents of Pasadena. Both victims were transported to local hospitals. Victim #2 was treated and released. Victim #1 remains in the hospital in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.

Victims’ statements alleged that there were three possible suspects who had a disagreement in the parking lot area. Witnesses stated that they heard gang phrases, with one of the three suspects then producing a handgun and opening fire on a small group of individuals, striking the two victims. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.
