ROOM SELECTION UPDATE

Revised 4-19-16

In order to be considered for a space you MUST have ALREADY completed the following items:

  • Completed the 2016-2017 License Agreement with initial payment of $140. Plus the Summer License Agreement with an additional $140 if you plan on living on-campus for the summer.
  • Submitted your Tuberculosis Documentation to the Health Center and submitted to Housing Services the receipt given to you by the Health Center.
  • Paid your Spring 2016 Housing fees in full.  All spring balances were due April 4th.
  • In addition to the items above, you must also be in good conduct standing and good academic standing.

Summer 2016 Room Selection Update:
Residents that submitted online their Summer 2016 Housing License Agreement with payment of $140 and Tuberculosis Documentation have received their appointment for Room Selection.  All summer room selection must be completed by April 20, 2016.

Fall 2016-Spring 2017 Room Selection Update
Residents that submitted online their 2016-2017 Housing License Agreement with payment of $140 and Tuberculosis Documentation, information will be sent this week as to their status and qualification for Room Selection for the Academic Year.

If you have NOT submitted a contract and wish to do so, please anticipate that you will be placed on a waitlist. As indicated in previous emails and through Information Sessions, Housing will need to limit the number of spaces offered to current housing residents.

 

INCREASED DEMAND FOR HOUSING - LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE FOR 2016-2017!

We anticipate that demand for housing will result in a waitlist once again this year. In order to accommodate incoming freshman, a limited number of spaces will be reserved for current housing residents to re-contract and reserve a space for the 2016-2017 Academic Year. 

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING SUMMER 2016 HOUSING
Summer 2016 will be shorter than normal due to the transition to semesters. Because of the challenges in preparing apartments and performing repairs and maintenance, Housing will be limiting summer residents to those that will be returning in the fall. Summer residents will be asked to select a space for summer that will be their permanent space for the entire academic year.

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE IN ROOM SELECTION? 
Since spaces for returning spaces will be limited, it is highly recommended that residents participate in this process in order to have the best opportunity to return for summer and/or fall. Even if you are not sure of your plans, it is better to contract now and cancel if your plans change.  You will have an opportunity to cancel with a least 30 day notice prior to the move in date. Since we also anticipate a waitlist, it is advised to apply early. The waitlist will be used through summer to fill spaces opened by cancellations.

HOW DOES ROOM SELECTION WORK? 
Room Selection requires the submission of the 2016-2017 License Agreement with a $ 140 payment to begin the process. IF you have been offered a space, you will then be provided an appointment time to select your room. Once you have selected your room, you must provide the first payment to reserve your space.

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ROOM SELECTION?

WHEN DOES ROOM SELECTION OCCUR?
The 2016-17 License Agreement will be available online on March 16, 2016, 1:00 p.m.. Appointments to select spaces will be scheduled during April.

WHAT DOES THE LICENSE AGREEMENT INCLUDES?
The Student Housing License Agreement is a contract for the academic year, with the option to include (add) summer. It requires that you read and agree to the terms and policies of the:

WHAT ARE THE OCCUPANCY TERMS (period of time you will live in housing)?

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO TO PARTICIPATE IN ROOM SELECTION?

  1. Complete online the Student Housing License Agreement for 2016-2017 and pay the $ 140 fee online when redirected to CashNet.
  • Complete the online 2016-2017 Housing License Agreement (contract) and make your initial payment of $ 140.00. All students must make the $ 140 payment out of pocket every year.  If you pay cash or with a check, please submit a copy of your receipt.
  • The 2016-2017 License Agreement will be available online on March 16, 2016 at 1PM.
  1. Complete a new Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire and submit it in person to the Health Center.
  • Every year, students must receive clearance by the Health Center by submitting an updated Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire.  Based on the answers on Questionnaire, some students may be required to submit proof of a negative TB test or chest x-ray accompanied by Tuberculosis Verification form.
  • International student must complete the Tuberculosis Verification form.
  1. Select your room of choice during your Room Selection Appointment. (Appointments will be sent to you via your Cal State LA email account)
  • Appointments will be given out according to the “Occupancy Term” you selected on your License Agreement.  The Occupancy Term is the period of time you wish to live on-campus (Summer-Spring, or Fall-Spring).
  • During your Room Selection Appointment, you and your requested housemates will be able to pick your apartment for next year.
  • Students MUST select their room during their Room Selection Appointment, even if they do not have a roommate/housemates or room preference. 
  • Included in your appointment notification email, you will receive instructions on how to select your room during your appointment.  
  1. Make your first housing payment before or on May 2, 2016.
  • Submit your first Installment, Quarterly or Full Year payment online and bring your receipt to the Housing Office.
  • Financial Aid recipients will be required to pay an initial payment of $ 500 by May 2nd.  Plus, submit a printed copy of their 2016-2017 Award Summary from their GET when available.  

IN PREPARATION TO ROOM SELECTION, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO:

CANCELLATION POLICY – submit Cancellation and Application Refund Request form to Housing Service at least 30 days before the beginning of quarter.
•        Summer cancellation deadline: May 20, 2016
•        Fall cancellation deadline: July 22, 2016

DON’T FORGET:   Your contract ends as of 2pm on June 11, 2016. 
All residents will be required to check out (remove your belongings out of apartment and return your keys) BEFORE 2:00 PM on June 11, 2016 unless you are contracted to live with us for the Summer 2016.
