Campus Violence Policies

All members of the University community are responsible for adhering to Cal State L.A. conduct codes and violence and other policies. Policy violators are subject to penalties which include suspension, expulsion, employment termination, arrest, criminal prosecution and incarceration, and civil litigation.

Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents

(Refer to ‘University Policies’ of the most recent Clery Disclosure Report)

Hate crimes are criminal acts defined by California Penal Code §422.55-422.57. A University community member who commits a crime against another person based on that person’s actual or perceived ethnicity, race, national origin, religion, sex, or sexual orientation is subject to arrest and criminal prosecution.

Policy on Campus Violence

This policy prohibits verbal harassment, violent acts, threats of violence, or any other behavior which by intent, action or outcome harms another person.

Policy on Sexual Assault

The Policy on Sexual Assault prohibits rape and other forms of sexual assault. The policy outlines procedures for filing complaints, identifies potential sanctions for perpetrators, describes campus and community victim support services, and provides other important information.

Policy on Weapons

(Refer to ‘University Policies’ of the most recent Clery Disclosure Report)

The use or possession of firearms or other weapons by students, employees, or visitors while on campus is prohibited by law. Duly sworn police officers are exempt from this law.

Student Conduct Code

The standards for student conduct identify behaviors for which disciplinary sanctions can be administered. This inappropriate behavior includes “…conduct that threatens or endangers the health or safety of any person within or related to the University community, including physical abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, or sexual conduct…”

Title IX Notice of Non-Discrimination

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in an educational institution’s academic, educational, extracurricular and athletic activities (both on and off campus). Title IX protects all people regardless of their gender or gender identity from sexual harassment and violence, which are forms of sex discrimination.
