Students and Alumni

Sometimes, you just need someone to talk to. Someone who can listen closely and provide non-judgmental support and experienced, knowledgeable guidance. That is what counseling is about.

Career counselors are available to meet privately with you to discuss anything related to your career, such as:

If appropriate, a counselor may recommend that you take a career test.  The Career Center offers the Strong Interest Inventory (SII), a preference test, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a personality test.

Mock Interviews

Students can schedule hour-long mock (practice) interviews with a career counselor, but before they do so, they must have either attended an interview workshop, or discussed interviewing techniques with a counselor.

Students must bring a copy of their resume along with a sample job description for a position for which they might want to interview. In addition, students should dress in business attire if they want to get the counselor’s opinion on the chosen ensemble. The mock interview will be followed with a period of constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement.

You can make an appointment for counseling by calling or coming in. An appointment for a resume critique will be scheduled for thirty minutes, and all other counseling appointments are scheduled for an hour. For appointments call (323) 343-3237.

We also offer walk-in counseling, where you can get quick questions answered without an appointment. Walk-in counseling is available Monday through Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
