Music & Media Center

About the closing of the Media Center:

In order to facilitate cost savings, staff efficiencies, longer hours of access, and better utilzation of space the library has combined the Circulation and Media service points.

All media materials (DVDs, CDs, & Media on Course Reserve) are now housed and available for check-out at the main Circulation Desk (Library North, 1st floor)

Please return media items to the Circulation Desk - Do not place them in the book drop.

Please note:  We have phased out the VHS videotape format.  Titles that still circulated regularly have been re-ordered in the DVD format.  Titles that were "out of print" (i.e. not available on DVD) were transfered to DVD-R format.  These DVDs should play on most DVD players as well as classroom computers.  Some former VHS titles may be unavailable for a short time so that we can re-process and catalog these items.  If a VHS title was removed but it's something you still need for your teaching, please contact me and I will work with your departmental liaison librarian to order a DVD replacement or suggest an alternative title.

As the non-print media specialist for the library, I will continue to provide guidance and consultation to the circulation staff regarding the library’s media resources and be available to assist faculty and students with questions regarding our physical and virtual media collections, assist with purchase requests, etc.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions regarding the library's media collections and services.

Scott Breivold
Media, Arts, & Web Librarian

About Placing Media on Course Reserve:

Faculty may request to have media materials (library-owned or your personal copies) placed on reserve at the Circulation Desk for one quarter.  Items on reserve are restricted to library use only.

*If an item is on course reserve, a faculty member may borrow the item for use in a class, but is encouraged to return it immediately after use.

To place media materials on reserve, please visit the Course Reserves page.

Media purchase requests:

If you would like to request the purchase of media materials for the library's collection, please send an email to your department's Library Coordinator with the title, format, and vendor (if known).  You may first want to read the University Library's Media Collection Development Policy.
