Getting the Local IP Address

Getting the IP of the local system is most easily done by typing in the associated command line command.

  1. On Windows: ipconfig command in a Command Prompt window (Command Prompt can be found in All Programs-->Accessories).

  2. On Mac: ifconfig command in a Terminal window (Terminal can be found in Utilities). It's the inet value in the line that also contains the broadcast value. The example below uses the pipe character and grep to isolate the right inet.
