Step 1 - Install Identity Finder

Identity Finder for Windows Baseline-supported Computers

For Windows computers connect on-campus that automatically receive updates and patches from ITS, the Identity Finder should be already installed. The icon on the desktop is a blue square containing the head of a sniffing dog.

Proceed to Step 2 - Configure and Run Identity Finder to begin the search.

Identity Finder for Windows Non-Baseline Supported Computers

To download Identity Finder for Windows Non-Baseline Supported Computers, click Here. Save the file IdentityFinderSetup-CSLA.msi to your computer. You must login the computer with an account in the local Administrators group before installation. Please contact your campus ITC for assistance.

To install Identity Finder:

  1. Double-click the Identity Finder setup file IdentityFinderSetup-CSLA.msi.
  2. When the Open File Security Warning dialog box opens, click Run.
  3. When the Welcome to the Identity Finder Setup Wizard screen opens, click Next.
  4. Accept the end-user license agreement and click on Next
  5. When the Choose Setup Type screen opens, select Typical.
  6. Click Install.
  7. When complete the confirmation screen will appear. Click Finish to launch Identity Finder.

After completing the installation, proceed to Step 2 - Configure and Run Identity Finder to begin the search.

Identity Finder for Macs

To download Identity Finder for Macs, click Here. Save the file IdentityFinder.pkg.dmg to your computer.

To install Identity Finder, do the following:

  1. Open the Downloaded folder. Double-click identityfinder.pkg.dmg. This will open an icon on the desktop and open a window with the IdentityFinder.pkg icon.
  2. Double-click IdentityFinder.pkg.
  3. When the Welcome to the Identity Finder Installer screen opens, click Continue.
  4. Choose the Installation Location and click Continue.
  5. Click Install.
  6. You will be prompted for a user ID and password. Click OK to proceed with the installation, which takes less than one minute.
  7. When the Installation Successful screen appear, click Close.

After completing the installation, proceed to Step 2 - Configure and Run Identity Finder to begin the search.

Important Note - The Mac version of Identity Finder will scan your files and folders, but will not scan your Web browser data at this time. Identity Finder for Macs has been tested in Ver. 5.1.0.0. and it successfully searched Entourage e-mail files. Other Identity Finder versions and other types of Mac e-mail files may not be scanned. In addition, there is no Password Vault capability, unlike the Windows version.

The most important part of running Identity Finder is determining the most effective and secure way of managing the results. This section is divided into four sub-steps, plus optional features. Be sure to carefully read and proceed through each of the first four sub-steps. Based on your work environment, you can determine if the optional features would be applicable to your computer.
