Wireless technology has quickly become the newest networking technology that has hit the mainstream. The purpose of this course
is to provide a straightforward and broad survey of wireless voice and data network standards and technologies available today
for personal and business communications. It is designed for students taking an entry-level wireless technology course or
seeking better knowledge of wireless communications and networks. To help students discover technologies from Bluetooth to
satellite broadband, this course provides a fundamental introduction to wireless communication systems including wireless personal
area networks (WPANs), wireless local area networks (WLANs), wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs), wireless wide area networks (WWANs),
wireless sensor networks (WSNs), and wireless local loops.
The cutting-edge wireless mobility topics discussed in this course will cover the wireless networking system architecture, standards,
technologies, QoS (quality of service), security, multimedia applications in business, and fundamental concepts in
mobile applications programming for smartphone platforms of Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile, etc.
This course will also be of assistance to students who are looking to obtain the Certified Wireless Technology Specialist (CWTS)
entry-level certification and the Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) foundation level certification from Planet3 Wireless,
the organization that is the leader in vendor-neutral wireless certifications.
There is no assigned textbook for the course. Instead, lecture notes are available on the Lectures

There will be regular homework assignments, a mid-term exam,
and a final exam. The final grade will be determined using the following weights: homework assignments 10%,
mid-term exam 42%, final exam 46%, class participation and attendance 2%.
There are no research project assignments for this quarter.
Homework assignments must be done individually.
Failure to do so will result in a violation of the Academic Honor Code.
The following cases will be considered as violations: identical answers
and extremely similar answers.
The extension of the homework due day is possible and will be announced in the class. People who submit the homework on time
will earn extra credits if there is an extension. However, any submission will not be accepted after the homework sloutions
are posted online.
The tentative date for the mid-term is Aug 1, Thursday, 6:10pm-8:10pm.
The Final exam is scheduled for Sep 4, Thursday, 7:30pm-10:00pm.
The exams will contain the True/False questions, Multiple Choice questions, and a couple of small questions. The final exam is
not cumulative and it will only cover the material talked after the mid-term exam. The study guides and exam sample
questions will be posted on the Homework page of the course web site. You are allowed to use one page note in
Make-up exams will be given only in unusual circumstances beyond the student's control.
Arrangements for make-up exams must be made in advance.
Attendance is mandatory. Send the instructor
email in advance if you have to miss a class due to emergency or sickness.
