I received my B.S. and M.A. in Psychology from Western Michigan University, a department well known for having a pervasive behavioral orientation. I then went on to the University of Nevada, Reno, known for having a unique contextual-behavioral philosophy, where I received my Ph.D. in Psychology (Behavior Analysis) under the mentorship of Linda Hayes. I have a wide range of clinical and teaching experiences, and present and publish my work regularly.

My main goals as a teacher are to promote the behavioral perspective in general, including its theoretical and philosophical assumptions, and to then guide students to build and implement effective instructional and therapeutic technologies derived from that foundation. I firmly believe that effective practice must be grounded in a strong philosophical and conceptual foundation.

I have published a number of theoretical papers on difficult topics in behavior analysis (e.g., private events, verbal behavior, cultural behavior, interdisciplinary science); many of which have involved and continue to involve collaborating with Dr. Linda Hayes at the University of Nevada, Reno. While I continue to pursue this line of work, I have also started to publish treatment evaluation research within the last few years, and expect to continue doing so in the future, particularly in collaboration with M.S. students in the Counseling ABA program and interested colleagues in the Division of Special Education & Counseling and CCOE more generally. More and more, my work is balanced between my interest and expertise in behavioral theory and philosophy, and my interest in developing and promoting interesting and effective assessment and treatment strategies, particularly for complex and understudied areas in ABA.
