Hey ya’ll this is Steve. I’m a pretty chill dude who loves music. Coming to California was the experience of a lifetime, I probably won’t do it again. The people here are amazing, and just thinking about all the money that was invested in us is just a pure blessing. If I could go back and do anything different, I would have got myself a better camera so I could take even better pictures of these once in a life-time experiences, even the San Diego Beach trip, lol.

What did you think about living in your apartment?

Living in the apartment really added a lot to the “living-on-you-own” part of the program. We cooked, cleaned and lived for ourselves. My apartment-mates were outstanding. And it was definitely cool that we could make decisions as a group with everyone’s input.

What did you learn from being in an apartment with other people?

You definitely learn how to LIVE with others. Coping with some one else’s habits, or customs. But you also learn more about how to communicate openly with one another.

Describe what you did and learned at your summer work site.

I did so much at my worksite. This summer I worked at Northrop Grumman Space Technologies. Working WITH my mentor I was able to learn about the time that goes into putting together little chips. I also got to experience being part of a teleconference (with NASA!), having meetings with fellow employees and just more about being a professional.

What was your favorite experience at NASA SHARP?

Hands down, my favorite experience was meeting the astronaut, Leland D. Melvin. It was like seeing an older image of me! I’ve wanted to be an astronaut since coming out the womb. Space travel, exploration and discovery are all I breathe. And meeting the astronaut just really said “yes you can”. I even got to take a picture with Leland! I’ve never been speechless before, but man…I loss every ounce of my voice then.
