Dr. Laura Calderon

Dr. Laura Calderon, the principal graduate advisor for Nutritional Science is also the past Associate Director of the School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science. She has been the Director of both the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) as well as the Coordinated Dietetic Program (CDP). The CDP is the only coordinated program at a public university in California; in addition, it is the largest coordinated program in California.

Dr. Calderon is a Registered Dietitian and is active in the American Dietetic Association, the California Dietetic Association, the Los Angeles Dietetic Association, and the Tri-Counties Dietetic Association. She is also actively involved in several professional practice groups of these dietetic associations; these include, Nutrition Research, Dietetic Educators of Practitioners, Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists, and Public Health Nutrition.

Dr. Calderon is actively involved in community outreach with her students, as well as students from a local high school. These community outreach activities are targeted at the lower-socioeconomic and under-served population groups, and provide invaluable experiences for these high school and Cal State L.A. students.

Dr. Calderon has received both the Cal State LA “Outstanding Professor” as well as the American Dietetic Association “Outstanding Educator” awards.
