Joan C. FingonDivision of Curriculum and Instruction
Since 2003 I have had the honor of working in a large urban community teaching a wonderfully diverse group of graduate and doctoral level students. I also enjoy conducting and publishing research with my colleagues in the Charter College. My primary goal is to advocate for and support my students in becoming highly effective classroom teachers, literacy leaders, and educational leaders.
My research interests are varied including classroom reading research, program evaluation, literacy assessment, early literacy, and children's literature. I am committed to promoting the voices of urban teachers for public school reform.
For the past few years I have been working with a colleague on co-editing and authoring a book for classroom teachers and literacy leaders related to classroom reading research. My most recent research interests include narrative inquiry and oral histories promoting urban teachers stories. I am also involved in literacy assessment, analyzing students' self-efficacy and developing reading and writing support for students in the CSULA Ed.D Educational Leadership program.
