"AGILITY"
Agility is a skill-related fitness component that is defined as the capacity for quick and efficient changes in direction and form of body movement.
Activity Description
Objective: Complete the test as quickly as possible while conforming to test rules.
Agility Test Procedures:
Plastic cones placed to form a triangle (10 meters a side, at an angle of ~60 degrees), and a finish line on a smooth grassy surface will be used for this test (see diagram). Participants are required to start facing forward between cones "A" and "B;" run through (past gate) cones "C" and "D" go around cone "C" to the left (side stepping with back to cone) and run backwards (back facing cones "A" & "B"); side stepping to the right around cone "B" (face forward toward cones "E" & "F"), and sprint forward through the finish line between cones "E" & "F." The best of two trials (or as many trials as allowed within the station's time limit), preceded by a warm-up orientation trial will be recorded as the individual's final performance.
Agility Test Rules:
  • One second penalty for touching or knocking down cones (per event)
  • Two second penalty for not circling cone properly and/or going over cone (per event)
  • Two second penalty for not running backwards (back leading) during the second leg of the test
Agility Test Scoring:
Time is measured (to the nearest tenth of a second) from the "GO" command until the runner crosses the finish line between cones "E" & "F." All penalty times will be added to the best performance; no exceptions, no kidding.
A team may repeat this event as many times as possible within the allocated 10-12 minute station activity time frame. It is legal to use substitutes during a second, third...etc. trial. The best complete performance by any one coherent group of 4 men and 4 women per team will be added to that team's overall Fitness Octathlon performance score.
