InDesign:InDesign is a long-document/page layout application. ID is used when your document will have images, tables, columns, references, table of contents, indexes, variable text, custom text blocks, and/or any type of style that you wish to maintain throughout the document. If you are going to type a letter, you are probably just as well off to use MS Word. However, if you are going to type out a test, a thesis, a report, or any document you want to have complete control on, use InDesign.
Illustrator:Illustrator is a vector drawing application. Vector images are resolution independent, which means that an image the size of a postage stamp can be increased in size to the size of a tall building without any pixilation. Thus, if you draw out a molecule, it can be resized as needed with no concern of distortion or pixilation. In addition, you have extensive text capabilities within Illustrator making it the best product to create posters.
Acrobat:Using PDFs to disseminate documents is almost imperative in a world where you do not know who has what program and/or what font. When you have a highly formatted document, the chance that it will be seen on another computer as you composed it is very unlikely—especially if you have any unique fonts in the document. Besides being the foremost PDF creation application available, Acrobat can do a lot more.
The Presentation Presentation:Speaking in front of a group once was focused around the blackboard. Then there was the overhead projector and slide projector, now we use PowerPoint or Keynote. Unfortunately this typically hasn't made the talks any better, unless you like watching the presenter read their slides. This presentation will show you how to make a more effective presentation using the tools you have more efficiently, and how to avoid some of the common pitfalls that tend to put audiences to sleep.
Digital Images: What kind of image is a PNG and why would you use it over a TIFF or a JPEG. Are you better off using an AI image or a EPS? If nothing I've said makes any sense, it's time to learn why there are so many image types and which ones are used for what purposes. This broad raging discussion will cover many subjects and will help answer most of what you need to know about digital images.
