Sociology studies social behavior, social institutions, and social structure. We offer a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Sociology. For our B.A. students, we have different options designed to focus coursework in particular areas of sociology to allow for more in depth study of that area.

There are 4 options for our B.A. students:

  • General Sociology

  • Inequalities and Diversity

  • Law and Society

  • Social Gerontology

For students majoring in other fields, we offer 3 minors:

  • General Sociology

  • Law and Society

  • Social Gerontology

The Department offers a wide range of interesting courses and an excellent teaching faculty and staff. Our faculty are well-known for their work and publications on social exchange, deviance, criminology, popular culture, gender, law, human rights, emotions, and the Korean and Latino communities.

Graduates of our programs have gone on to careers in an array of fields, including education, law, medicine, business, law enforcement, social work, counseling, and social services.
