POSITION: Graduate Assistant
STARTING DATE: Beginning Fall quarter 2013 and on-going.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Geosciences & Environment. Graduate Assistants must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong knowledge of general geology and oceanography laboratory teaching materials and equipment. Completion of introductory geology and geology related courses.
HIRING CRITERIA: Ability to meet or exceed minimum and/or preferred qualifications.
DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the faculty member, the Graduate Assistant will provide assistance in preparing laboratory materials used in Earth Revealed and Oceanography laboratory courses. Primary duties will include assisting faculty with preparation of course materials, organizing the storage of materials, preparing materials for instruction, assisting with demonstrations, tutoring of students and replacement and repair of missing or broken teaching items as needed. Other duties may include classroom clean-up and design and construction of mineral, rock, and fossil displays. May perform clerical or other routine tasks such as grading laboratory exercises and examinations, recording grades, etc. Some supervision of non-GE laboratory sections or students may be required on Saturdays.
SALARY: Current Graduate Assistant rate for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
