Department/Division: Honors College and Department of Liberal Studies
POSITION: Tenure track Assistant Professor - joint appointment in the Honors College and the Department of Liberal Studies.STARTING DATE: September 2014
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution of higher education by the beginning of the appointment. Candidates should have expertise in Medical Humanities, including mastery of interdisciplinary methodologies from the humanities and/or qualitative social sciences and a demonstrated ability to use these methodologies to engage medicine and science in innovative ways. Candidates should provide record of or potential for scholarly activity (involving students whenever possible) and peer-reviewed publications, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have interdisciplinary teaching and scholarly interests that complement the current faculty. Areas of interest include medical ethics, environmental studies, disability studies, medical narrative, medicine and literature, community medicine, gender and sexuality studies, cultural studies, race and ethnicity studies, and community-based learning.
DUTIES: In addition to teaching, duties include student advisement and service for the Honors College, the Department of Liberal Studies, the College of Arts and Letters, and the University.

SALARY: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
