The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life

The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, launched in 2001, seeks to promote a deeper understanding of issues at the intersection of religion and public affairs. The Forum pursues its mission by delivering timely, impartial information to national opinion leaders, including government officials and journalists. This information includes news, surveys and reports focused on four key areas of research: religion and politics, religion and the law, religion and domestic policy, religion and world affairs. The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life is part of the Pew Charitable Trusts.


Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions

The Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions (CPWR) was created to cultivate harmony among the world's religious and spiritual communities and foster their engagement with the world and its guiding institutions in order to achieve a just, peaceful and sustainable world. First held in Chicago in 1893, in conjunction with the famous Columbian Exposition (a.k.a the Chicago World’s Fair), the Parliament of the World’s Religions brings together the world’s religious and spiritual communities, their leaders and their followers to a gathering where peace, diversity and sustainability are discussed and explored in the context of interreligious understanding and cooperation. The next Parliament will take place in Melbourne, Australia in 2009. Cal State L.A.’s own Dr. Joseph Prabhu, Professor of Philosophy and Religion, sits on the Council’s Board of Trustees.


The Toledo Guiding Principles on Teaching about Religions and Beliefs in Public Schools

These guidelines were developed by the ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) Advisory Council of Experts on Freedom of Religion or Belief in co-operation with education experts. Aimed at both legislators and schools, they offer guidance on preparing curricula for teaching about religions and beliefs, preferred procedures for assuring fairness in the development of curricula, and standards for how they could be implemented.
