Korean Zen Music Concert on May 24th, 6-8PM at State Playhouse on campus

The Department of Modern Languages and Literature (Prof. Namhee Lee) and Center for Korean American and Korean Studies (CKAKS, co-sponsor) will proudly present the 2011 Korean Culture Night to CSULA and its surrounding communities. For this event, 20 premier Zen Musicians from Korea will visit the campus and perform contemporary Buddhist Zen music, introducing the beauty of Korean culture to the campus. Admissions are free. AAAS Scholars Lecture Series, Inaugural Lecture (1:30-3:00pm, May 19, 2011, University Student Union, 3rd Floor Los Angeles Room)

Asian Pacific Islander Grad Celebration June 12, 2011

API Cultural Graduation Celebration will take place in the LA Room, 3rd Floor U-SU on Sunday, June 12, 12-2pm. Asian Pacific Islander Student Resource Center is very pleased to have the Mayor of Rosemead, Steven Ly, deliver the Keynote Address. Japanese American National Museum Getty Grant Program Multicultural Undergraduate Summer Internship

Criteria for Intern Candidates: The internship opportunities are intended for members of groups underrepresented in professions related to museums and the visual arts: individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent. Intern candidates can be sought from all areas of undergraduate study and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts.  In addition, each intern candidate must meet the following eligibility criteria: (1) s/he must be a currently enrolled undergraduate and have completed at least one semester of college by June 2011 and those who will complete their degree by September 1, 2011 are also eligible to apply; and (2) s/he must be a resident of or attend college in Los Angeles County and  be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
Please note that students who have previously served as Getty Multicultural Undergraduate summer interns at the Japanese American National Museum are not eligible for consideration. Finally, staff members and relatives of staff or board members are not eligible. (Students enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible).

Intern Stipend:  $3500 gross for Full-Time, consecutive 10-week internship.
Dates of Internship: June 14 – August 20, 2011. Will require some evening & weekend hours. Regular workweek is Tuesday – Saturday.

Imprenta Communications Group, Inc (Imprenta) Internship opportunity

The intern will work with this dynamic fast growing consulting firm, and assist the Imprenta team in a number of activities, special projects, research assignments and administrative duties.

Desired Qualifications

· Communications, Political Science, Public Administration, English, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing majors preferred.
· Good written, verbal communication skills and strong computer skills.
· Interest in working on political campaigns, serving as a staff member to an elected official or involvement in community organizing for a nonprofit organization, particularly those dealing with the APA community.
· Ability to speak Chinese (conversational Mandarin preferred)
· Interest in politics and history of community involvement
