News From The Provost

Dear Faculty Colleagues:

We are off to an exciting start to the academic year. Thanks to your efforts we have exceeded our Fall full time equivalent student (FTES) target. There is much going on and much to share. This is the first of what I hope will be a quarterly communication to keep you updated of various campus efforts and initiatives.

You will find a number of topics of information in this newsletter, including updates on Advisement and Student Success, Community Engagement, the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning (CETL), the GET/Common Management System (CMS) upgrade, a reorganization within Academic Affairs, and a summary of the recent appointments.

In addition, I would like to encourage you to review the updated Strategic Plan posted on the campus website at https://spcc.calstatela.edu and draw your attention to a brief video introducing the key initiatives in the plan. I hope you will agree that our three initiatives Student Success, Community Engagement, and Collaboration are meaningful, attainable, and will provide greater clarify and unity to our collective efforts.

As you think about our strategic plan, please know that we must be even more disciplined in the way that we manage our resources. We need to align our values with our fiscal priorities and we need to measure and assess our successes. This means that we must have greater transparency on how we allocate, spend, and dedicate our resources to ensure we are being strategic in achieving our goals. As we go forward, I remain confident in our ability to manage and align our resources because of our commitment and dedication to our students.

Please let us know what you think of this communication and ways that we can improve how we stay connected.

Thank you and best wishes for the rest of the Fall quarter.

Sincerely yours,

Ashish K. Vaidya
