Review of Degree Programs

Program review (PR) at CSULA is a long established practice (CSULA PR Policy was first approved in 1973) that examines the “academic health” of a program through several perspectives. The Program Review Subcommittee (PRS) of the Educational Policy Committee is responsible for this process.

One analogy to program review is the regular physical exam; although parts of it may be uncomfortable, it is designed to address problems before they become serious and to give you peace of mind that your programs’ health are recognized by the broader University. There are numerical data (enrollments, graduation rates, etc) on the size and throughput of your programs and other data (outcomes assessment from samples of student work to the achievements of alumni) that reflect the quality of the students graduating from them. A healthy balance of both of quantity and quality is highly desirable. The process is designed to have input from program faculty, external reviewers and the College and University administration. Implementation of the recommendations resulting from this process are part of the cycle of continuous improvement shown below.
